| From 1992 to 2000, Summer Seminar at the University of Michigan: U.S-Japan Training Institute in Geriatric Care had been held. Every year, about twenty participants such as a practitioner of health care, medical care, welfare service and etc., were dispatched to the University of Michigan Geriatrics Center and learned the interdisciplinary team care for the elderly. At gthe Turner Geriatric Clinich, the specialized agency for the elderly attached to the Michigan University Medical Center, so called the peer volunteers who were the same ages as patients were working actively with the volunteer training. In 2007, the Univers Volunteers members were dispatched to Michigan and the Univers Volunteer Program was held that they could learn the sprit and skills of the peer volunteers. In response to the social needs since 2009, we have extended the participation subject to the volunteers through the nation, who strived for emotional care. In the Michigan, the participants attended the lectures offered by instructors who also had deep knowledge of the welfare in Japan and the curriculum was focused such as the site visit to the facilities, interaction with the local volunteers, and experiential learning of the outdoor team building program. After their returns to Japan, each participant applies their experiences to the local community and some of them were also reported in the local newspapers. The participants are willing to develop building their networks so that they would bring the capabilities into the communities. In the fiscal year of 2011, the instructors from Michigan are visiting Japan. The former participantsf groups have planned the workshops and the forums in Sendai of July 10th, Hakodate of July 12th, and Tokyo of November 12th-13th In Tokyo, the Univers Volunteers shall attend the workshop and poster board session of the 20th JAPAN VOLUNTEER FESTIVAL TOKYO, organized by the Volunteer Festival Steering Committee. |
